    Restoration of The Walks commences

    Red Mount Chapel
A massive £4.34 million project to restore and revive Lynn's historic park, The Walks, is now underway.

Contractors, UCS Civils, have been appointed to carry out an ambitious programme of works that will see the creation of a new park management building, including toilets and a café, along with the complete refurbishment and restoration of Red Mount Chapel. New play equipment, furniture, paths and railings together with improved wheelchair access all form part of the grand plan.

Plans are also underway to dredge and repair the banks of the Gaywood River that runs through the park, replace existing lighting columns with vandal-proof ones, and install CCTV to improve security in the park.

    The Walks fact file:
    • The Walks is the last surviving example of an 18th-century complete town walk in Norfolk.
    • It has been designated as a Grade II listed landscape
    • The park contains around 800 trees
    • The Red Mount Chapel and nearby trees are home to Natterers and Brown Long-Eared Bats - maintaining these habitats is viewed as a priority

    Savage Storm Batters Lynn

Savage storms battered this area on Thursday, leaving a trail of mayhem that damaged buildings, left dozens of fallen trees and caused general chaos.

The 80mph winds were compared to the infamous gales that lashed the country in 1987.

In the Lynn area, a wall was sent crashing on to a car, and the A149 King's Lynn Bypass between Knights Hill and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital was closed after power lines were brought down.

A tree fell on a car on the A10 causing minor injuries to all three passengers.
