Restoration of The Walks commences

A massive £4.34 million project to restore and revive Lynn's historic park, The Walks, is now underway.
Contractors, UCS Civils, have been appointed to carry out an ambitious programme of works that will see the creation of a new park management building, including toilets and a café, along with the complete refurbishment and restoration of Red Mount Chapel. New play equipment, furniture, paths and railings together with improved wheelchair access all form part of the grand plan.
Plans are also underway to dredge and repair the banks of the Gaywood River that runs through the park, replace existing lighting columns with vandal-proof ones, and install CCTV to improve security in the park.
The Walks fact file:
- The Walks is the last surviving example of an 18th-century complete town walk in Norfolk.
- It has been designated as a Grade II listed landscape
- The park contains around 800 trees
- The Red Mount Chapel and nearby trees are home to Natterers and Brown Long-Eared Bats - maintaining these habitats is viewed as a priority
