    The return of Food Fortnight

Food Fortnight is back in 2007! The dates have now been set as 27th October 2007 - 10th November 2007 and will be offering a varied menu of food-themed activities for people of all ages to enjoy.

The programme will include old favourites such as 'Around the World in Eighty Dishes' - a chance to sample food from across the globe without even leaving King's Lynn. Event Co-ordinator Gill Daniels said: 'This will be the fourth Food Fortnight event and we have high hopes that it will be the best yet. The full menu is still being planned but we hope to get many more people and organisations involved this time.'

If anyone would like to have further information about how they can become involved with Food Fortnight 2007 please email foodfortnight@wnp.org.uk or telephone 01553 616251.

Dame Kiri to perform at King's Lynn Festival

Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, one of the world's greatest opera stars, is to sing at this summer's King's Lynn Festival.

The soprano, who sang at the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in 1981, will perform a special programme for the festival on Monday 23 July at King's Lynn Corn Exchange.

'King's Lynn is very fortunate to have attracted a major international opera singer of her calibre,' said the festival's artistic director Ambrose Miller. 'She will head a line-up which shows that the 57th festival is living up to the traditions established in its early years,' he added.

The programme for the two-week festival, which runs from 15-28 July, includes plenty of star talent, including pianist and festival vice-president Freddy Kempf, whose performance thrilled the last-night audience in 2005. He will give a recital in the Corn Exchange on Thursday 26 July and a coffee concert with violinist Katja Lammemann the following day. They represent the younger generation of young musicians along with cellist Natalie Clein who will perform in St Nicholas' Chapel with the European Union Chamber Orchestra on 17 July.

Two more festival favourites will return - the Academy of Ancient Music on Saturday 21 July and the Philharmonia Orchestra who will give the final concert featuring violinist Min-Jin Kym on 28 July.

Another festival vice-president, historian David Starkey will be back in Lynn on 27 July to talk about Church, State and Crown.

The festival brochure will be released in early May and the box office will open in mid-May. For more information, call 01553 767557.

    Flood plans exhibition

A public exhibition showing plans to manage flood risk up to 100 years into the future is being held at The Green Quay, King's Lynn on Tues 13th Feb 2007 from 1pm - 6pm. The exhibition is being organised by the Environment Agency.

The exhibition will focus on what the Great Ouse Draft Catchment Flood Management Plan (CFMP) says about reducing the risk of flooding in the area.

They are hoping that as many people as possible will take the opportunity to visit the exhibition to find out more about the plan and the consultation process currently being undertaken, so that they know how to submit their views to the Environment Agency for consideration.

The Great Ouse Catchment Flood Management Plan is out for public consultation until 30th March 2007. Copies of the summary document are available from the Project Manager and will be available at the exhibitions. It may also be viewed on the Environment Agency's website at www.environment-agency.gov.uk.
