Captain Vancouver 250 Exhibition
The Captain Vancouver 250 exhibition is now open at the Custom House in King's Lynn. The exhibition features a reproduction of the Great Cabin, where Vancouver and his officers made the charts and drew the natural scenery, local indigenous people, wildlife and plants that they encountered during their years at sea. This striking display is accompanied by storyboards detailing a short biography of the man himself and a rare exhibition of ethnographic artefacts from Polynesia and north-west America, brought back by Vancouver and other early travellers, on loan from the British Museum. A model of the 'Discovery' made by Alan Stott of the King's Lynn Model Boat Club is also on display, along with ships' charts from Vancouver's time onwards. Children's quizzes will ensure that the display is interesting to even the youngest visitors. The Captain Vancouver 250 exhibition is free of charge and will be open to the public until the end of October 2007. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm, and from 12noon to 4.30pm on Sunday. For more information, please contact the King's Lynn Tourist Information Centre on 01553 763044
