Fawkes in the Walks

The night sky above The Walks, King’s Lynn is set once again to provide the backdrop to a fantastic firework display this Bonfire night.

Attracting thousands last year, the Fawkes in The Walks event, organised by the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk and supported by police, is back and it is set to be even better this year.

From 6.30 pm, when the bonfire will be lit, the park will be a hive of activity with stalls, funfair rides and high-energy activities, such as bungee ropes and trampolines.

Local bands Accapoustics and Under the Influence will entertain the crowd before the pyrotechnics burst into action at 8pm. KL.FM’s new breakfast presenter, Adam Newstead will lead the countdown to firework lift off, making sure all eyes are firmly on the night sky as it explodes in colour.

A fiery-themed fancy dress competition will be held with a range of great prizes up for grabs, including a family ticket for the King’s Lynn Corn Exchange’s first pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk. Judging takes place at 8.20 pm.

Cllr Elizabeth Nockolds, Cabinet Member for Sports, Arts and Open Spaces, said: “The Walks is a great place for an organised display and means families can enjoy Bonfire night in safety. I really enjoyed last year’s event and as this year’s set to be even better, I’ll certainly be encouraging people to come along and join the fun.”

King’s Lynn & West Norfolk Chief Inspector Ady Porter, said:”For their own safety and enjoyment, we are encouraging people to attend organised community events – and the Fawkes in The Walks promises to be a spectacular not to be missed.

“This should be a happy family occasion and the police will be taking a dim view of any individuals or groups here or elsewhere who use it to indulge in anti-social behaviour.”

People are encouraged to listen to KL.FM (96.7)in the lead up to the event, as if the weather is severe cancellation notices will be issued via the radio station.

Refreshments will be available throughout the evening.

The firework display is free to attend but discretionary donations, to help cover the cost of the event, will be accepted. Charges may be made for other activities. Children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult. People are advised not to bring pets to the park during the evening. This is an organised display. Private fireworks are not permitted in The Walks.
