Special grants for community groups

2012 is set to be a memorable year with the Queen celebrating her Diamond Jubilee and London hosting the 2012 Olympics.

To help communities in west Norfolk celebrate these two historic occasions, small grants of up to £200 are being made available to local community groups, clubs, parish and town councils, and charity organisations who are hoping to organise Olympic- or jubilee-related activities or events.

Just over £20,000 has been earmarked for community activities. To bid for funding, groups should visit the Norfolk Community Foundation website – http://www.norfolkfoundation.com/king’s-lynn-west-norfolk.htm and complete the short application form. Applications must be received by 24 February in order to be considered.

Borough Council Cabinet member Cllr Elizabeth Nockolds said: “We hope the availability of this fund will encourage people to plan events and activities in their area that the whole community can get involved in and enjoy. It’s been a tough few years for many people and this is a great opportunity to get together with friends and neighbours to celebrate this special year.

“Whether you are planning a jubilee street party or a sports induction course or taster session, if it involves the local community you could be eligible for a £200 grant.”

Applications will be considered by the funding panel in March and the funds released to successful applicants in April.
