Flooding and Coastal Erosion – How do we plan for it?
How do we get involved in the decision-making processes that help prevent the risk of flooding to this area?
This is the question that will be asked at a free public information event coming up in February at the Green Quay.
Flooding and coastal erosion are issues of increasing concern for many people. Given the pressure for new development there is a need to ensure that such concerns are properly taken into account by decision makers.
The Environmental Law Foundation (E.L.F.) is holding the event on Friday 10th February to explore how the planning system deals with flooding. The event will bring together officers from West Norfolk Borough Council, Norfolk County Council and specialists from the Environment Agency to discuss their roles in such decisions and a legal expert will run a workshop looking at how communities can best engage with the planning process.
E.L.F.’s Legal & Policy Officer, Tom Brenan, says: “Communities often struggle to comprehend local authority policies about development on flood plains and what measures there are to protect land from flood risk. This event is designed to explain how the planning system takes such matters into account and how local people can have a voice in such decisions”.
The event takes place at The Green Quay, Marriot’s Warehouse, South Quay, King’s Lynn, Norfolk PE30 5DT from 2pm to 5pm.
