Last year 160 local artists contributed to a mystery painting challenge – The Bigger Picture – which resulted in a large scale collaborative recreation of a local little known masterpiece from around 1800.
Working in partnership with the Lynn Museum once more, King’s Lynn Arts Centre are throwing down the gauntlet again in 2012 and have selected another hidden gem, this time focussing on Heritage Buildings of King’s Lynn.
Norfolk based artists are being asked to show their colours and join together to recreate it in small pieces without knowing the identity of the picture until the big reveal at the Opening event.
The painting will be pieced together at the Arts Centre’s Fermoy Gallery and on display from the 29th September until the 1st December.
Thanks to the generous support of local businesses Snappy Snaps and Heritage Picture Framers the Arts Centre are able to display a replica of the original artwork that the artists have been meticulously reproducing (the real thing is permanently on display at Lynn Museum).
The public will have the chance to win the replica plus a number of other prizes in a special raffle in order to raise funds for the Arts Centre.
The Bigger Picture will be the centre-piece of an exhibition in which each artist will be invited to exhibit one picture of their own of any heritage building of Lynn. Artists who paint one of a list of 13 specially selected Lynn landmarks (including The Town Hall, Customs House and Southgates) will be eligible to be considered for inclusion in a heritage calendar of King’s Lynn Arts Centre to be sold through the local venues from October. The images for the calendar will be selected by Arts Centre Patron, Mark Hill.
The more artists that contribute to the The Bigger Picture the better. Registration has now been extended to the 18th August, to ensure that even more people get the chance to take part.
It is free to enter – just call the Arts Centre on 01553 779095 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. You will be sent your piece of board, a small section of the picture and the information about the calendar competition.
