The best things in life are free!

They say the best things in life are free, and that’s certainly true of the Swaffham Free Music Festival…

The Swaffham Free Festival is a new arts event set in the heart of beautiful Norfolk promising an eclectic mix of music to suit all tastes and ages.

Taking place in the historic Georgian Market Place in the centre of town on Sunday 26th August 2012, no less than 15 bands will be playing on two separate stages between 2pm & 8pm.

“We hope this will become one of the highlights of the summer music festival scene for many years to come” say the organisers.

Popular Norwich outfit Killamonjambo will be performing their energetic mix of ska, dub, punk and rock. They’ve been described as a younger version of the wacky 1980s band Madness.

Suffolk duo The Blarney Rovers should get feet tapping with their mix of Irish songs, ballads, jigs, reels, waltzes and polkas.

Folskaband is a mob of musicians from the deepest, darkest wilds of Norfolk,
who met at the pub in 2009 and have been playing, writing, recording, arranging, miming, laughing and drinking ever since. The unique band steals its groove from around the world with a blend of soaring melodies, funky backbeats, fun lyrics and dancey rhythms.

Swaffham Community Choir is part of a local group of soul-inspired community choirs who “nurture spiritual, physical and emotional wellbeing” to anyone who wants to join them. Their influences include Sacred, Folk, and Medieval music.

The full list of bands:
Novinka! Folskaband, Folk Choir 2012, Dave!!!, Midnight Circus, Hey Rudi, Killamonjambo, Beyond Illusion, Hamond’s Samba, Peter Twitchett, The Demodes, Kiss The Mistress, Cyril Grant, Blarney Rovers, Masters Of Insanity and Sophie.

There will also be stalls, refreshments, children’s rides, street entertainers and a climbing wall.

And Malta’s very own “pop princess” Sophie is back following on from her recent performances at Party on the Park and King’s Lynn Festival Too.

Having spent her early music career on the beautiful but tiny Maltese Islands, singer/songwriter Sophie travelled to the UK to start a nationwide UK promotional tour taking her to 22 locations.

We met the friendly 18 year old when she last visited West Norfolk, and also did an interview with her which you can Read Here.

After meeting and chatting to X factor star ‘Marcus Collins’ at Liverpool Pride recently, Sophie was asked how she felt after such an amazing summer: “I feel such a lucky girl to have received all this love and support from fellow Artists, Press, Radio, TV and the lovely people here in Britain. I keep thinking that this all a dream and will be waking up any moment, but then when I realise it’s all real, I feel like a Gold medallist, totally ecstatic!!”

“With this tour nearing its final stages, I don’t see it as an end, but as the beginning to what I hope will be a long lasting career in music!! Thank-you so much Britain, I love you !!”

Sophie’s new single ‘Sunny’, her own version of the Bobby Hebb classic will be released and available for download on the ‘Thru The Mill’ Record Label via ‘Absolute/Universal Music’ soon.
