A new Women’s Institute has opened in the centre of King’s Lynn with fun at its heart!

The brand new Women’s Institute opened at Providence Street Centre, King’s Lynn on 9 June, with the focus on bringing women together to have fun.

The group has been put together after conversations between friends took place and a passion for common interests was discovered.

Hayley Kurt, President of the Providence Street W.I. said “Being able to learn new things, and develop existing skills in a sociable fun environment was lacking in the area, so this fresh and exciting W.I. has been formed.

The stress is on fun, you do not need to be skilled in anything at all – just keen to meet new people and laugh!”

Each month there will be a different speaker and all of the ideas for the sessions have been suggested by women coming along to the meetings. So far the plans include cocktail making, cake decorating, flower arranging and wine tasting.

“I’ve got a group of friends who I have known for years, and recently discovered that we’ve got shared interests like baking, sewing and knitting that we never talked about because we didn’t think it was cool!

“Finding out that so many of us did these things ‘on the quiet,’ seemed like the perfect opportunity to be honest about our passions and start a W.I. to celebrate them! I’m really excited that we’ll all be able to get together to learn new things and enjoy hobbies, while spending time over a glass of wine!”

The new W.I. meets monthly at 7.30pm at the Providence Street Centre, with the next few meeting dates set for Monday 14 July, Monday 11 August, Monday 8 September and
Monday 13 October.

There has been interest in the group from all over the area since it was launched on the social media site – Facebook. Ladies from Wisbech and Marham are arranging lift shares, details can be found on the groups Facebook page – Providence Street W.I.

Hayley Kurt went on to say “I have been overwhelmed with the support that the idea has had. We’re keen to work with local businesses and organisations that could be speakers, so if you are interested in either joining the group or acting as a speaker please get in touch.”
