Water ski racing on the Ouse!

King’s Lynn’s historic waterfront will once again be buzzing with activity this summer when Hunstanton Ski Club host their first ever Hanseatic Ski Race on the River Great Ouse.

Never before has Formula 1, 2 and 3 water ski racing taken place on this river. In fact, racing on rivers is quite rare, with most events taking place on the sea. Organisers are hoping that this event will rival the world-renowned Diamond Race which takes place in the Hanseatic town of Antwerp in Belgium.

Daniel List, from the Hunstanton Ski Club organising committee, said: “This is going to be quite spectacular. Two days of high-octane entertainment, which visitors will be able to watch from the banks of the River Great Ouse. Competitors will need skill and stamina to manoeuvre across the choppy waters of the river, whilst the audience will see a breath-taking display as high-tech racing boats with wailing motors cut through the water’s surface and racers speed across the water at close to 100 miles per hour. We guarantee an unforgettable experience.”

The event, which will take place on 22 and 23 August 2015, was launched outside the town’s historic Custom House on the waterfront. Event organisers are seeking sponsorship for the event which is already being supported by the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk and Marriott’s Warehouse.

Cllr Elizabeth Nockolds, Cabinet Member for Culture, Heritage and Health, at the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk, said: “This is a really exciting event for King’s Lynn which I hope will encourage lots of visitors to the town and in particular to the historic quarter. It will be quite a thrill to watch Formula 1, 2 and 3 water-ski racing from our historic waterfront – something we’ve never seen before. We are delighted to be able to support this event, which adds another dimension to the already packed programme of events we have lined up for people to enjoy this year. I would urge people to get the date in their diary now.”

Andrew Hornigold, from Marriott’s Warehouse, said: “There’s going to be a lot of interest in this event because it is so different to anything else that’s been done before. It’s a great opportunity for local businesses to get involved at the start and to help build another key sporting event which we think will attract competitors coming from far and wide.”

Anyone interested in sponsoring the event, or having a trade stand at the event can contact Laura List on dan@djelectrical.co.uk for a sponsorship pack or more information.
