On Wednesday, we joined organisers and participants of the forthcoming 1940’s Weekend for a photoshoot down in the air raid shelters beneath the Tuesday Market Place.

It was surprisingly warm down there and rather damp, and there were sound effects including sirens from the period which all added to the atmosphere. A warden suddenly shouted “lights out!” as we were plunged into darkness for a while. It certainly must have been very scary for those using the shelters during the war!

Visitors will be able to explore the air raid shelters for themselves during the spectacular 40’s Weekend taking place in King’s Lynn on July 18th and 19th.
