Halloween Jam at The Shed

halloween jamOn Saturday, 31 October 2015, The Shed Skatepark at Alive Lynnsport in King’s Lynn is hosting Spooky Skatenight – a Halloween Jam offering a variety of fun activities.

The event, which has been organised by Alive Leisure, will also include a consultation element as staff will encourage users to complete an online survey to help build up their case for Sport England funding.

Peter Lemon, Chairman of Alive Leisure, explained: “We submitted an initial bid to Sport England earlier this year which was unsuccessful, however, the feedback we received was very positive and we feel confident it is worth resubmitting our bid for the next round of funding.

“The main element of the original bid was about undertaking work to reduce the condensation in the building and therefore reducing the number of occasions when we have to close. The need for this was well evidenced.

“The other element of the bid was about adding a mezzanine floor to accommodate a chill out seating area, DJ booth, café and shop, as well as providing a viewing area for spectating. Classrooms are also planned to deliver a variety of workshops including an after school club. We were advised that we need more evidence to support this need.”

Saturday’s event, which costs £3 per person, starts at 6pm and finishes at midnight. In addition to the normal activities within The Shed there will be Halloween-themed fun, a DJ and a prize for the best fancy dress.

Cllr David Pope, Cabinet Member for ICT, Leisure and Public Space, said: “We really want people to come along and have some fun and find out about the facilities we already have on offer, but we also want them to take part in our online survey and tell us what we could do that would make The Shed an even better place that would result in more use and greater take up of extreme sports. For example, a cafe would enable us to host children’s birthday parties and encourage a younger audience into skateboarding or BMX.”

Staff will be at the event armed with smart phones or tablets to encourage people to complete the online survey and local videographer Louis Brindle will be filming vox pops at the event which will form part of the resubmission.

Anyone unable to attend the event can complete the online survey by visiting The Shed’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/shedskatepark.

The deadline for the resubmitted funding bid is 11 January 2016 and a decision would be expected in April.
