King’s Lynn’s famous light shows have returned after taking a break for the festive season. Every evening from 5pm to 10pm, beautiful art installations light up six buildings around the town centre. They were replaced by projections with a festive theme on 22 November, as part of King’s Lynn’s Christmas lights switch-on event, the Big Switch-on.

The original projections have been shown every evening since March as part of the Interreg IV funded cross-Channel Art, Cities & Landscape project between the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk and the Maison de la Culture d’Amiens. They were due to finish at the end of October, but have been extended due to their popularity.

The six light shows are: “Waves” by Shantidas Riedacker and Dorian Rigal on St Nicholas’ Chapel; “Ecosystem” by Guillaume LePoix and Thomas Daveluy on 1-3 Tuesday Market Place; “Night Sailors” by Julia Dantonnet on the Custom House; “Round of Clocks” by Amandine Meyer and Julia Dantonnet on King’s Lynn Minster; “Doing, undoing the tide” by Gaëtan Robillard on 18 New Conduit Street and “Ephemeral Scenes of Lin” by Halida Boughriet on Greyfriars Tower. A full trail map is available from the Tourist Information Centre or www.west-norfolk.gov.uk

Cllr Elizabeth Nockolds, cabinet member for Culture, Heritage and Health, said: “We’re really pleased that we can bring the original light shows back immediately after the festive light shows have finished. The light shows have become a must-see feature of King’s Lynn’s landscape after dark, and this will mean that even more people will have a chance to see them. The festive light shows have proved to be very popular, and I am sure that everyone will be glad to see the returning light shows as they continue to make King’s Lynn an even more beautiful place to live and visit.”
