The Hanseatic Water Ski Race takes place on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 July, and excitement is mounting as more details about the event are announced. From 9:30am on Saturday, and 10am on Sunday, speedboats will race at up to 100 mph along the River Ouse in 8 different races. This unforgettable sight is best viewed from the quayside in Lynn’s historic waterfront.
Jason Russell, Commodore of Hunstanton Ski Club and race organiser, said: “Formula 1, 2 and 3 water-ski racing is returning to the Great River Ouse in King’s Lynn, and it’s going to be spectacular. This is the only river race in the country, so take your chance to watch from an unbeatable vantage point. We’ve been working hard to organise two fantastic days of racing, and we hope to see everyone there”.
Cllr Elizabeth Nockolds, borough council cabinet member for Culture, Heritage and Health, said: “The Hanseatic Ski Race won Community Event of the Year 2015 in our Mayor’s Business Awards – a category decided by a public vote – and it was well deserved. This event is back again this year to transform Lynn’s quayside for two days of unmissable racing, and I urge everyone to come along and join the fun”.
New this year is the under-8s fun ski race, which takes place at the end of the programme of races on Saturday 9 July. These junior daredevils will brave the choppy waters of the river on boards, and need as many spectators as possible to cheer them on. Spectators will also see surprise appearances from costumed characters on the water; sure to be a hit with younger spectators.
There will be plenty happening on dry land too, with fun family activities on the quayside across both days. These will include food stalls, sweet stalls and ice cream, an outside BBQ and bar, face-painting, and more. On Sunday, there will also be live music performed by talented singer Jo Jenkinson.
