Lego Lynn is coming to town!

The Lego version of Trues Yard Cottages.

On Tuesday 1st August True’s Yard Fisherfolk Museum is launching its Lego Lynn project. The Museum will be encouraging visitors to build some of the town’s iconic buildings, from the Custom House to the True’s Yard cottages.

The Museum hopes that this will increase visitors’ appreciation for the town’s wonderful historic buildings, as well as being great fun!

King’s Lynn has a rich architectural legacy, with 300 listed buildings in the town. Figures from the town’s past include the Lynn born architect Henry Bell, who was responsible for designing the Duke’s Head and the Custom House, described by Nikolaus Pevsner in one of over 30 volumes on The Buildings of England as “one of the finest late [17th century] public buildings in provincial England”.

As Deputy Manager Rebecca Rees explains, “Lego is a classic children’s toy which appeals to all ages. We hope parents and grandparents will have fun helping children try to create some of Lynn’s buildings. Who knows, we might have the next Henry Bell!”

Lego Lynn will run from 1st August to 2nd September and is free with Museum admission. Visitors are encouraged to share their creations on social media using the hashtag #LegoLynn.

True’s Yard Fisherfolk Museum is a community museum and heritage site which was officially opened in 1991. Its survival in the 1980s was due to the success campaign of Museum founder Pat Midgley, MBE, who was supported by the Northenders and Borough Council. The Museum is currently undertaking a Heritage Lottery Funded project to improve its archives and is coming to the end of its Silver Jubilee fundraising appeal.
