Today, August 15, is Blog Action Day. This year the focus is on Global Poverty. We are told that poverty can be eliminated within our lifetimes, but even so, most of us feel stuck when it comes to taking action. There are in fact a range of things that anyone can do... Watch this video for some ideas, or visit the Blog Action Day website.
King's Lynn to Hunstanton video documentary (part 1)
The Lynn to Hunstanton railway line was closed in 1969, due to a decline in passenger numbers.
This brilliant documentary, by former college student Christopher Brockbank, recaptures old memories and includes archive film footage and fascinating facts about this former part of the 'Great Eastern Railway' network.
Christopher is currently studying documentary at a university in Wales: "I intend to make many films about Kings Lynn whilst I'm there and many more when I graduate. I've decided to make a full one hour version of King's Lynn to Hunstanton, when I have more education under my belt. Be on the look out for it, in a few years time!"
King's Lynn to Hunstanton video documentary (part 2)
Part 2 of this fascinating documentary starts off looking at Heacham Station, and how it was once connected to Wells-Next-The-Sea. It also looks at what happened to the old station at Hunstanton.
There's still time to register to take part in King's Lynn's Great East Anglia Run. The race, which will take place on Sunday 4 May, will attract athletes and charity runners alike and already has over 1800 registered runners.
This is a fast, flat single lap course winding its way through historic King's Lynn, starting and finishing in the town centre's Tuesday Market Place and taking in the newly refurbished Walks and town centre. The course has been changed very slightly from 2007 making it a wee bit faster!
Ideal for wheelchairs and an excellent venue for spectators, it will have a wonderful atmosphere that only a town centre race can create.
There are not many races that can boast a double Olympiad (Paul Evans) and a running legend (Ron Hill) of being involved ...

Google turns out the lights
Google users will notice today that they “turned the lights out” on the Google Homepage, as a gesture to raise awareness of a worldwide energy conservation effort called Earth Hour. On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone.
This is one of those feel good moves by Google that might actually have an impact: Whether or not you believe climate change is a significant threat to the planet, becoming more energy efficient has obvious economic and ecological benefits to us, and raising awareness around that can only be a good thing.
