Family history made easier - at the library

A free online database which allows people to trace their family history at Norfolk's libraries has been used around 16,000 times over the past six months.

Ancestry is available for use in all County Council libraries - allowing users to search through records of births, marriages, deaths and census returns.

And following the increase in the number of people using libraries to trace their family history, more free taster sessions are being planned to help visitors track down their forebears.

Those coming soon include sessions at King's Lynn Library on Thursday November 8, Saturday November 10 and Friday November 23.

Jennifer Holland, Norfolk County Council's Head of Libraries and Information, said:

"TV programmes such as the recent series Who Do You Think You Are? have certainly made more people curious about their family history.

"Libraries have a whole host of resources that can help people fill in the gaps, not least Ancestry which has helped people to make some real breakthroughs."

Anyone interested in booking a free Ancestry taster session is asked to contact their local library.

Contact details for libraries are available by visiting www.norfolk.gov.uk
