Police go 'on the run' with Norfolk mobile libraries
Norfolk County Council's mobile library service has joined Norfolk Constabulary in the fight against crime, going 'on the run' to offer a reassuring police presence in rural areas.

Book-lovers in three areas of Norfolk who are used to picking up an Agatha Christie whodunnit or the latest PD James, can now meet with a real-life police officer or Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) and tell them what's happening in their village.

Following a successful three-month trial, the scheme has now been made permanent, giving mobile library users a reassuring uniformed police presence in isolated rural locations. It is hoped that getting officers 'out and about' on a regular basis will not only strengthen the 'thin blue line' but also help build a clear intelligence picture of what concerns local people.

The system is already up and running on two routes running out of Gorleston library and one from Wells and, if successful, could be extended across other parts of Norfolk, subject to funding.
