The Rotary Club of King’s Lynn, founded in 1926, is part of a world-wide
organisation and one of three Rotary clubs in the town. All three are involved
in fund-raising for charity and in providing support to the local community.
The motto of Rotary International is Service above Self. In the last Rotary
year the King’s Lynn Club donated over £12000 to nearly 40 charities, schools
or individuals. The amounts donated varied from as little as £50 to over
£1750. To cite just some examples, £1150 went to Norfolk Hospice Tapping
House, £1000 to Riding for the Disabled, and £400 to the Lavender Hill Mob
drama group. Each year the Club provides Christmas parcels to about 40
households and organises a party for West Norfolk Young Carers.
The money is raised by street collections, collection boxes in shops and by
a variety of social, cultural or sporting events organised for Rotarians and
for members of the general public. These include concerts, BBQs, wine and
cheese parties, sponsored walks, historic tours and golf competitions.
Currently the King’s Lynn Club has over 30 members and is keen to welcome
newcomers. Details and contacts can be found on the Club website: www.kingslynnrotary.org
